podcast of this week’s Blind Flight

The Blind Flight for November 27, 2015

cinchel – A House Once Lived That Never Was

its finally warm again, but sometimes it still snows

tulip bulbs breaking ground in the garden outside

porch swings

sunlight, windows, sleeping cats

rain floods, harsh sounds

summer solstice picnic in the field out back

cat bats at the curtain as it billows in the breeze

filling up the wading pool, playing outside all day

camping out in the backyard

just sitting on the porch

saying goodbye from the driveway as the school bus comes

drinking the last of the sun-tea and watching the leaves begin to change

first apple pie from the oven and the kitchen smells wonderful again

all the rooms are quiet

cat asleep on the windowsill

sitting in the rocking chair reading a good book

preparing for guests we dust off the mantle and make room for the fold out bed

after the big meal we sit around and remember

hiding Christmas gifts under the stairs and in the closets

falling asleep in the big blanket, waking up with snow falling outside the bedroom window

drinking tea on the couch, staving off a fever

that sound the radiators make

the tea kettle whistles while we watch the last embers in the fireplace

the windows barely keep out the cold, sealed against the wind and the ice

we had to move out but hopefully the next owners treated it nicely

the after Thanksgiving edition of the Blind Flight

In North America, we just celebrated the Holiday of Thanksgiving, a day where we express gratitude and give thanks, spend time with friends and family, enjoy good food and maybe even watch some football.

Now it’s time to enter into another season of reflection and on this week’s edition of the Blind Flight, you’ll be hearing a selection of mostly acoustic music.

There’s something comforting about listening to music made with instruments like the guitar, the piano and the cello. Music made with these instruments exuding warmth and reverie can often lead one into a quieter space: a place to reflect and simply exist in the moment.

I’ll be playing music by such artists as Paul Avgerinos, Peter Kater, Kathryn Kaye, Escape Philosophy, Leigh Ann Phillips, Claire Fitch, Michael Dulin, Marcel Pequel, Tom Powell, Josh Johnston, Tom Caufield, Evan Wish, Marc Enfroy, Robert Linton, Robert Rich and the program will begin with an epic 90 minute album by Cinchel called A House Once Lived That Never Was: along with a special intro to the album by the artist.

Please join me at 9 PM central time tonight on http://stillstream.fm for three hours of acoustic music.

Thank you for listening.

a question for my followers

For those who celebrate it, I’d like to wish you a very happy Thanksgiving.

I had a question for those of you who download my music and/or follow my personal bandcamp page.

I’m thinking of adding detailed descriptions of the artwork to my subsequent releases, starting with Drone Excursion 012, just a little something to benefit other blind and visually impaired people who don’t get the same visual experience from the cover of a release that the sighted have.

My thought is that, since the cover is a part of the artistic whole of the release, it only makes sense to add this extra information.

My question would then be, where is the best place to put this info, in the about section or add it as a separate text file in the optional bonus items area?

I would appreciate any thoughts that you may have on this question, especially from a visual perspective as it relates to the overall presentation of the contents of a release.

standing in solidarity

I’m planning on doing a special live ambient performance after Grove of Whispers tonight at 11 PM central time on http://stillstream.fm to express my solidarity in standing with the victims of the horrific attacks in Paris on Friday as well at those suffering from atrocities in regions like Beirut, Baghdad, and Syria. I don’t know how long I’ll play and that’s to be expected for an ambient impulse.

Music is the universal language we can all understand so to that end, I want to do my small part in being a contributor along with other people who may be using that same vehicle to express their own voices of solidarity during this most difficult time. I hope you can tune in for this performance as we come together in a time of grief and darkness to discover that we can be a force of good and light, to lend our own individual voices to the cause of peace and tranquility to a world that, more than ever, is in such desperate need of both.

Thank you for listening.
