the after Thanksgiving special on tonight’s Blind Flight

On this day after those of us in America celebrate thanksgiving, we are headed into a season of calm and tranquility as we prepare to celebrate the Christmas holidays with friends and loved ones. There is something comforting about acoustic instruments (the cello, Piano and guitar) to use as a background for the contemplative mindset that seems to be natural at this time of year as we reflect on the past, look forward to the future but still remain attentive, probably more than usual, to the present moment.

On this mostly acoustic edition of the program, I’ll be playing tracks by Kathryn Kaye, Escape Philosophy, Leigh Ann Phillips, Claire Fitch, Michael Dulin, Marcel Pequel, Tom Powell, Josh Johnston, Tom Caufield, Evan Wish, Marc Enfroy, Paul Adams, Robert Linton, Robert Rich, Your host, Paul Avgerinos and I’ll be playing a special extended track by Peter Kater called Essence. If you haven’t heard this, you need to tune into tonight’s blind flight and check it out. It truly is a masterpiece.

I hope you’ll join me for a special extended after Thanksgiving edition of the blind flight, starting at 11 PM central time on http://www.stillstream.com/

Thank you for listening.

new release: drone.excursion.006 (waag_dex006)

I am honored to have the 6th installment of the Drone Excursion series released on the weareallghosts label.

Here are the notes and download link for this album.

Thanks for listening.

“Let no two drones be alike must be Scott’s motto….at least thus far. Each drone excursion is markedly different from all others.”

So says Brian Bourassa in a comment on Bandcamp. I cannot agree more and with the belated 6th instalment in his drone.excursion series, Scott Lawlor proves, if proof be really needed, this point.

“Unquiet Spirits Crossing the Rubicon” is a deeply immersive, full-on longform piece; one that paints mind-pictures of wide, desolate spaces interspersed with the Cyclopean architecture of another age.

new release: MetaDronos & Scott Lawlor – The Ancient Glaciers of Mars

I am honored to have my first release on the xenomorph record label and I’m equally honored to have collaborated with MetaDronos, a fantastic dark ambient artist from Poland on this release.

Here are the notes about the album and then the download link.

Take a journey through the frozen distant past of Mars as you explore glacial formations, enormous ice fields and peer into the icy abyss of one of the largest canyons in the solar system. It was 3.5 million years ago that such glacial activity was to have occurred, according to recent scientific discovery. This then, is a soundtrack to a journey through the frozen regions of the planet next door. Be prepared to be immersed in an eternal ice-age with Metadronos and Scott Lawlor as your guides.

Thanks for oistening.

The Blind Flight for November 14, 2014

AmbientOnline.org hosts challenges for ambient music producers: called the One Sample Dare Challenge. The goal is to create the whole ambient track using only one sound sample, resynthesized and transformed using a variety of tools and effects. Additional synthesizers, oscillators or samples are not permitted.

Working under such constraints forces artists to stretch their own creativity

and to rely on ideas not on ready-to-use soundbanks or libraries.

I’m playing entries from challenges 11 and 22.

One Sample Dare #11

Subdream – Beautifully Fragile (OSD Mix)

remst8 – Turbine v0.40

CosmicLettuce – Tunnel To Hades

Codehead – The Devil’s Machine

MetaDronos – Enremuanno

One Sample Dare #22

Ian Haygreen – Fractious

Synthetic Aurality – Bird In The Factory

Duckett – Derelict Vessel

Dave Dorgan – Two Moons

lighthugger – derelict oil rig blues

shaun rylands – Drifting Consciousness

Codehead – Microwaver

Tuonela – The space between the spaces
