a new compilation

I am honored to once again be a part of the Album in a day series on the BFW records label. You’ll remember that I have a track on Volume 6, which came out in May of this year so when the opportunity presented itself, I contributed a new track to the project.

To download the entire collection, which is 38 tracks and a little over 4 hours of music, please visit the link at http://www.bfwrecordings.com/releases/AlbumInADay/Vol7/

my track is called Tibetan Daydream. Thanks for listening and I look forward to being on the next Album in a day compilation.

new release, The Path to the Gods

My first collaborative effort of the year is available for download. Here are the notes about the album.

Aural Films is pleased to be releasing a wonderful new collaboration project by Shane Morris and Scott Lawlor. The meeting of ambient artists has produced a powerful composition that reveals the path to the Gods. Journey on a river of drones guided by mystic percussion, exotic sounds and echoing caverns of the neither world in this long-form piece.

I’d like to thank Jack Hertz of Aural Films for releasing this collaborative effort.

You can download the album from http://auralfilms.bandcamp.com/album/the-path-to-the-gods

seeking rest, new release available

Hi there.

I have a new release out on the Free Floating music label and it is a great honor to have my music on this fantastic roster of great music and artists.

Here are the notes from the site and the download link to the cd.

I’d like to thank Brad from the bottom of my heart for his words about my music.

From the Free Floating site:

2013 belongs to Scott Lawlor….

Take a look at his discography from this year (and the year is only 3/4 over as I write this…).

• Complex Silence 36 – Treetrunk Records
• Times Escape – We Are All Ghosts
• Constant 29 – Treetrunk Records
• Dark Mind – Buddhist On Fire
• Rain 1 – Webbed Hand Records
• Desert Winds – 45 Echoes Sounds
• Like A Pelican of The Wilderness – We Are All Ghosts
• Haiku 03 – Subterranean Tide

Now add to that

• Seeking Rest – Free Floating

Then add to that The Blind Flight podcast and Stillstream radio show and I’d say it will soon be time to nominate him for the Brin Coleman Award for Prolificacy in Ambient Music.

But I completely get Scott’s motivation. Once I entered into the ambient music community on the Internet I was inspired to share and create in much the same way that Scott has been.

As you can hear from Seeking Rest, that inspiration has resulted in some beautiful ambient music. According to Scott, this piece was born from two earlier pieces he composed in the 1990’s but never released. He reworked them into this track in one take with no overdubs. That’s what Scott is capable of.

I’m sure you’ll agree that this track is perfect for Free Floating. It moves slowly and subtly, taking you with it through the clouds. If you can’t find rest with this piece, then I don’t know what else would work for you.

This one is highly recommended to play on repeat to keep you floating peacefully all night (or day).

as always, thanks for listening.

an interstellar blind flight this week

Last week, the Voyager 1 probe entered into interstellar space which prompted a good bit of creativity from ambient artists on ways to demonstrate their wonder and awe at such a feat, the first manmade object to enter into the realm beyond our solar system. As a result, on this week’s Blind Flight, I will be presenting an entire program on music made from the sound that NASA put on the internet, the sound of interstellar space as recorded by the Voyager probe. Most of the music in this program comes from the Disquiet Jundo, an internet community of artists who experiment using specific themes and sounds as a springboard for sonic creativity.

You can learn more about this project, and specifically the one related to Voyager by visiting the following web site.

I will be featuring works by artists such as abstraxus, Ethan Hein, Sōzu project, Steve Moshier, Dublinator, echosonic, Larry Johnson, martin rach morsanek, Specta Ciera, Mark Rushton, Mark Ward, Tuonela, indwelling fire, JSoliday, justin buckley, vanWinkle and yours truly also has a drone for Voyager, the longest track in the program, clocking in at half an hour.

I hope you’ll join me on Friday, September 20th at 11 PM central standard time for a sonic journey beyond our solar system on www.stillstream.com/

Thanks for listening.
